What is a Community Health Center?

CHC's are community-based public and private nonprofit corporations that provide comprehensive primary health care services to all people regardless of the person's ability to pay for those services. There are 31 federally funded CHCs in Tennessee that provide health care to approximately 311,312 people per year.

What is Primary Health Care?

Primary health care includes: physician's services and, where feasible, services of physicians' assistants and nurse practitioners; diagnostic laboratory and radiological services; preventive services, including children's eye and ear examinations, prenatal services, well-child services, and family planning; and pharmaceutical services.

What obstacles do Tennesseans face in accessing primary care health care?

Some Tennesseans don't have access to primary health care because of an inability to pay; some live in areas that have major shortage of health care providers, and some have fallen into poverty, homelessness, or the ranks of the uninsured. These Tennesseans face barriers to heath care access because the system is ill-equipped to serve them. Community health centers eliminate many of the barriers to health access.

Are CHCs new?

CHC's were founded some 40 years ago. Our corporation of CHC's was started in July of 1978

Our vision is to treat every patient like they are the only patient, every time.
